Umbrella Cockatoos come from the central and northern
Moluccan Islands in Indonesia. They reach a length
of about 18 inches and live about 40 years or
more. Their feathering is a beautiful bright white,
with yellow accents under their wings. These cockatoos,
with the right nurturing and stimulation, have
the capacity to be life-long companions who are
affectionate, cuddly, exuberant and extremely
intelligent. They love to play games that are
physically and mentally challenging. If handled
well, umbrellas accept affection from most everyone.
Each cockatoo has a strong personality and each
has their unique qualities. Some can be good talkers
and love to rehearse a startling variety of sounds
and conversation. They can be well behaved and
independent, with the right kind of rule-setting,
guidance, and teaching. They must be given much
security and nurturance and taught a variety of
ongoing lessons about how to be independent, which
includes appropriate play and using time on their
own. |
